Problems with Conventional Water Heaters

Conventional water heaters are more expensive to run and more prone to specific problems than tankless water heaters. Although tankless water heaters can develop issues, common issues with conventional models include:

  • Cold Water: A faulty heating element or power supply can cause the water to take too long to heat up. This is easier to fix than, for example, sediment or rust build-up inside the tank. This build-up creates insulation that forces the water heater to work harder. Increased pressure and heat can cause the tank to rupture.
  • Reheating Issues: If you don’t get hot water or the water is taking too long to reheat, the appliance’s heating element may have failed. Replacing the heating element can help, but slow-heating water can be caused by rust in the tank or other serious issues.
  • Leaking Tank: Excessive corrosion can cause the tank to fail and leak from the inside. In this case, the best solution is to replace a malfunctioning tank. A tank problem won’t go away on its own, so it’s best to have a technician replace it as soon as possible.
  • Rust or Discolored Water: Water heater problems may manifest as rust-colored water. Discolored or smelly water can come from a tank problem or high levels of minerals, such as sulfates, which cook as water is heated. Having a professional plumber perform a water heater flush may resolve the problem.
  • Banging or knocking noises: This happens when sediment at the bottom of the tank is heated up. The sediment keeps the tank from properly heating, which causes loud knocking noises.

You can call us immediately when you notice any of these signs and get your water heater serviced or repaired.

Customer Reviews

Called Absolute for my 81 year old landlord in the height of Summer heat. Scott came out to inspect the old beast of an AC and found many issues. He took the time to educate us, note everything, photograph it and provide several recommendations...and my stubborn landlord has done nothing LOL. A couple months later we asked that Scott come back out and he was there that same day.
